Granny’s Apple Pie

Almost everyone knows a kind of apple pie that has been homemade, isn’t that just always the best? My granny used to make a hell of a pie! Her apple pie recipe has been passed down the family and today I am going to share it with you. It is my favorite and I hope you will like it as much as I do. Lets get started!

Ingredients
For the pastry:
Butter 120g
Sugar 100g
Flour 240g
1 Egg
A pinch of baking powder
Milk 2-3 tablespoons

For the filling
8 Baking apples (e.g. Elstar / Yonagold)
40g sugar
A little bit of cinnamon
Raisins

For greasing the tin
Some butter

Instructions
♥  Preheat your oven to 180 C.

♥  Take all the ingredients for the pastry and mix them together using your hands or a pastry blade. Set it aside of a while. I recommend putting the pastry in the fridge, this way it will be easier to work with later on.

♥  Peel the apples and cut them in tiny little pieces. Put the apple slices in a bowl and add a a hand full of raisins, the sugar and the cinnamon. Then mix everything together.

♥  Grease the tin with butter, otherwise you will not be able to get your pie out of the tin after baking it.

♥  Separate the pastry in three even parts. One for the bottom, one for the sides and of course one for the wicker on top of the apple pie. Then start covering the bottom of the tin with the first part of the pastry. Then take the second part of the pastry and cover the sides as well.

♥  Put the apples in the tin and press them down.

♥  Use the third part of the pastry to create the braid on top of the apple pie. Basically separate the pastry in eight even parts and roll them into a string. Lay down four strings in horizontal and four in vertical direction and weave the strings.

♥  Brush the top of the pie with some milk or a beaten egg.

♥  Put the apple pie in the oven for 45 minutes on 180c.

♥  Let your apple pie cool down a bit before removing the tin

♥  Serve it with some home made whipped cream and enjoy!

Have you ever made apple pie at home?

Hmm dat ziet er erg lekker uit. Ik ben dol op appeltaart! Vooral in de winter, met warme chocomel en een grote toef slagroom erbij.
